Remember The Simple Times
I remember
I remember I was just a little boy
A hot dog 18 cents
Goin’ there with my daddy
And it didn’t matter
Didn’t come with a toy
I’d just as soon play with the bag
My dad there be’ in my friend
And I remember hot dog just 18 cents
He sat me down told me bout be’ in a man
And I remember gasoline just a quarter
Man would come out smile on his face
He was there to serve you he was full of grace
And I remember a simple time
A time when people cared
A time when people cared
A time when people cared
And I remember people were forgiving
I remember an ice cream cone was just 5 cents
Triple scoop was 15
And I remember a goin there with my daddy
He’s just there be’ in my friend
He sat me down told me bout be’ in a man
Let us not now speak falsely to each other
Let us not now sister and my brother
Speak falsely to one another
My sister and my brother
Cause I remember a hot dog 18 cents
And I remember gasoline just a quarter
And out came a man smile on his face
He was there just to show us
His loving kindness saving grace
N’ I remember nobody had to be in front
N’ I remember you just gave away your life
N’ I remember it was no big deal
Not to think of yourself was really very real
And I remember Oh I remember
A hot dog 18 cents gasoline just a quarter
Smile on the face of a man
He was there to serve you
Let us remember Oh let us remember
Let us remember now, Oh let us remember
Let us remember what our life is really for
Oh let us remember how we can be restored
Oh let us remember let us remember
Let us remember
Oh let us remember hot dog 18 cents
Ice cream cone just 5
Man a smile on his face
Gasoline a quarter
Everybody was full of grace
Oh let us remember
Everybody was full of grace
O let us remember
Everybody was full of grace
Man with a smile
Full of saving grace
Oh let us remember
Let us remember
Oh let us remember

And I remember going to the movie....movie, a coke, a bag of buttered pop corn, all for a quarter. Gas was 17 cents a gal. and a dish of soft serve ice cream was 5 cents. Another world then....and it has been changing ever since and in the last 4 months has changed faster than the last 10 years. We will never know it again as it was. We can't go back.
Love the poem (or was that a song?). It brings back memories. We'd go to the local ball game and scramble to collect all the foul balls and bring that back. We got a nickel each and by the end of the game, usually had enough to visit the Dairy Queen and get the largest soft ice cream dipped in chocolate. Yumm.
Thanks for sharing
So 18c a hot dog, and 5 c an ice cream cone. How old are you, man ?LOL
they still are...some .lol. I'm real, even I only have one I borrowed from M.M. lol
LOLLOLOLOLOLLL You're lucky I'm not your enemy lol !!
Don't rememebr any of this (wrong country) but loved the rhythm and the sentiment, half way through I was wondering if I was reading song lyrics(?) Thanks for poem enjoyed it!

Great poem of nice memories. I only remember when gas was a dollar. But, it was full serve though that just means someone else pumped. Today you get less and pay more. Oh I also remember when a half gallon of ice cream at the grocery store was actually a half gallon of ice cream. Today many are 48 oz. when a half gallon is physically 64 oz. but, they are the same price.
